American-Bred Puppies
We like our American bred best because getting a home grown pup means that you can go visit the breeder, talk with them on the phone, and keep in touch easily and economically. Our new links page will have American and global links.
Portugal and European Imports
Some of the Podengos shipped from Portugal and other countries do not have full pedigrees, which means they may not be pure Podengos. So if you are getting a Podengo from abroad, make sure you work with an ethical breeder and are getting a bona fide Podengo. The best imports are from the homeland of the Podengo - Portugal.
Prices
Most imports cost more than home grown Podengos, sometimes more than twice as much. Work with our certified breeders when looking for a socialized, healthy, good looking Podengo.

The links part of this website lists only breeders in the United States, where the best breeding programs are connected to the Portuguese Podengo Club of America, which has a nice code of ethics meant to protect the breed from unscrupulous breeders and practices.
If a breeder is listed there, it means that the breeder records all of their breeding stock with the AKC-FSS, registers their DNA with AKC, microchips or tattoos them for permanent identification, checks various health indicators and provides other reasonable means to ensure that their Podengos healthy and are going to the best homes. So make sure that the breeder is a member in good standing with PCUSA at podengocentral@aol.com
